Strawberry Sage Smoothie

Smoothie

Sweet and slightly savory strawberry cocktail

Pouring a strawberry sage smoothie into a glass from a nutribullet

Strawberries are a super choice of berry which will keep you body in ketosis. Used in a smoothie, this small amount of berries can pack a punch of sweetness. This recipe promised to taste like a summer strawberry cocktail without any guilt.

Having followed a keto diet for a while now, I really noticed how my taste buds appreciated the sweet strawberries now that I have removed most sugars (along with carbs) from my diet.

While following a keto diet, some keto purists would snub their noses at berries yet keto can be more satisfying in a dietary balance when you look at it’s the process of staying in ketosis and not restricting everything and anything with carbs. Not the guys at Key For Keto and never in my life have I been kicked out of ketosis by a handful of berries, especially strawberries.

Why is sage good for you?

Sage is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as its ability to support cognitive function. Studies have shown that sage can help improve memory, focus, and concentration, making it a great ingredient for improving overall brain health.

Strawberries – an odd fruit

Strawberries are the only fruit that wear their seeds on the outside. The average berry is adorned with some 200 of them. Having seeds on the outside means that the seeds can be spread so quickly as they just adhere on to the fur or feathers of any animal brushing past.

Pouring vanilla bean sweetener into a nutribullet cup
Vanilla bean sweetener

Vanilla sweetener vs vanilla extract

In this Strawberry Sage Smoothie vanilla can be used to reduce your sugar, as a sugar substitute, as it has fewer calories and carbs than sugar. Reducing sugar intake can reduce high blood glucose levels and lead to a more heart-healthy lifestyle. Bear in mind, I used vanilla extract (typically used in baking) rather than vanilla sweetener (or syrup generally used in coffee making). There are differences, the extract is slightly more bitter however I don’t think it disadvantaged the smoothie taste at all.
