Keto Avocado Shrimp Salad with Bacon
This keto avocado shrimp salad with bacon is so decadent and delicious. It's like guacamole and shrimp got together with a BLT.
What a delicious, nutritious and low-carb salad from the Key for Keto cookbook. It was so easy to make, and I think any cheese could be added if you have an aversion to blue cheese…
Blue cheese is a widely popular variety of cheese, thanks to its strong and distinctive flavour. The most famous blue cheeses include Roquefort, Gorgonzola, Stilton and Danish Blue. Roquefort is a French sheep’s milk cheese with a creamy texture and rich salty flavours. Gorgonzola is an Italian cow’s milk cheese, with a sharp and tangy taste. Stilton is an English cow’s milk cheese that has a creamy texture and subtle flavour notes of nuts and mushroom. Danish Blue is a soft, mild blue cheese made from cow’s milk with a sweet, nutty flavour. When it comes to the strength of flavour in blue cheeses, Roquefort has the strongest flavour of all. Gorgonzola is slightly milder than Roquefort, but still quite strong. Stilton and Danish Blue have much milder flavours, making them popular for those who prefer a more subtle taste. So if you’re looking for a blue cheese with an intense flavour, Roquefort should be your first choice. On the other hand, if you’d like a milder blue cheese with more subtle flavour notes, Danish Blue is definitely worth trying.
Can I substitute prawns for shrimp?
The terms shrimp and prawn are often used interchangeably, but there is actually a difference between them. Shrimp belong to the sub-order Pleocyemata, while Prawns belong to the sub-order Dendrobranchiata. Both of these groups come from the order Decapoda, which refers to crustaceans with ten legs. In terms of physical characteristics, shrimp are usually smaller and have thin bodies, while prawns are larger and have thick bodies with long legs. Additionally, shrimp typically have a curved tail shape where the ends curl upwards towards its head, whereas prawn tails taper off to a point. In terms of taste, shrimp tend to have a sweeter, milder flavor and a softer texture than prawns. Prawns usually have firmer texture and a smokier or saltier flavor. Overall, while the terms shrimp and prawn are often used interchangeably.
What is a BLT?
The BLT sandwich is one of the most popular sandwiches in the United States, and it’s easy to see why. An acronym for bacon, lettuce, and tomato, this classic combo provides a delicious balance of flavors and textures. Apparently, the first known recipe for a BLT appeared in an 1896 cookbook from a lady named Fannie Farmer (the same person who developed the measurement system that we still use today!) The sandwich is thought to have become popular as an easy and delicious meal during the 1920s, when sliced bread became widely available. It wasn’t until later in the century, however, that it gained its famous acronym – BLT. This clever name caught on quickly, becoming a part of our everyday language.
