This is actually two recipes – a bacon and egg fat bomb and a bacon and avocado fat bomb.

Get the bacon and eggs cooking, then do the all chopping. I needed more bacon, as the meal really is freshly chopped and combined ingredients, a wet mixture, rolled in dry bacon crumbs. This did not work out for us, and was incredibly fiddly and time consuming.

How to boil an egg – perfectly

So I have researched a million ways to boil an egg so that I get a perfect, not too sticky, not too overdone yolk. The method which works for me is this:

  • Bring a pan of water to the boil
  • Add a room temperature egg to the pan (gently using a spoon)
  • Set your timer for 7 minutes and turn the pan to a simmer
  • Take the egg out and leave to cool before peeling.

How to peel a boiled egg?

Wait until the egg shell is cool enough to handle, then tap the top and bottom on the worksurface. Next roll the egg a little so the shell fractures and begin to peel. If you are lucky you might get some purchase and the whole shell may come off in pretty much one go. Go on, challenge yourself to get it off in one piece.

Total Time1 Hour 15 Mins

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 4 slices bacon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1 small avocado
  • 1 tbps fresh lemon juice
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp onion diced
  • 1 cloves garlic crushed
  • 1 tbsp cilantro chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Let your oven preheat at 350°F while preparing the dish.
  2. Arrange the bacon slices on baking sheet in a way that they don’t overlap. Leave in the oven for 10-15 minutes until brown & crispy.
  3. Remove once cooked. Transfer the bacon grease (bacon fats leftover in the tray) to a bowl and reserve. Let the bacon sit for a few minutes then chop them into bits.
  4. Allow the eggs to boil in a pot filled with water. When ready, peel off the shells. Slice the eggs into thin portions and season well with salt, pepper, butter, and mayonnaise. Mix half bacon fat in the eggs as well. Refrigerate for 30 minutes
  5. Start making the Guacamole avocado fat bombs while chilling the egg mixture. Mash the avocado and mix it with the butter.
  6. Add the remaining half of the bacon fat residue. Combine together with cilantro, onion, lime juice, and garlic. Pepper and salt to your liking. Leave in the fridge to chill for 30 minutes.
  7. Take out from the fridge when the mixtures set and firm. Scoop out a spoonful of the guacamole mixture and mold them into spheres.
  8. Do the same with the egg mixture. Create about 6 balls with the avocado mixture and another 6 balls with the egg mixture.
  9. Spread the toasted bacon bits on a plate. Coat the balls with the bits. Serve in a plate or in paper muffin cups for a prettier meal.

What we think

“The egg bomb didn’t hold well together. This was messy to prepare and messy to serve. I ran out of bacon before I had finished “crumbing” the bombs. So that deals with the presentation. Now the taste. The ingredients for each bomb are beautiful until you get a big blob of butter which literally made me not able to swallow my mouthful. I possibly could have mashed up the butter more, but I don’t think it would have made that much difference, it was just awful. There was way too much butter. Perhaps I did something wrong? Have you tried this recipe, and did you get the same results? Let us know. For us, this is a 1 out of 5 stars.”
