Ginger Basil Avocado Smoothie

Good thinking from the team at Key For Keto including an avocado in this super fresh smoothie to fuel our energy while in ketosis, but how did it actually taste?

Avocados have so many benefits nutritionally and are a great way to fill up, but they are not everyone’s cup of tea when it comes to the taste. I may have said this before but you can actually survive on just a diet of avocados as they include everything you need to thrive. So if we can get it toeveryone’s liking then this should be a winner?

This recipe contains Whey. What is Whey?

Whey protein powder is an excellent choice for those who follow the keto diet. It’s made from a by-product of dairy production, which essentially means it’s a high-quality source of protein with minimal carbs and fat. You can buy whey protein powder in most health food stores, or online for convenience. There are several reasons why whey protein powder is beneficial on the keto diet. It helps to keep you feeling full, so you don’t experience hunger as quickly and keeps your metabolism working efficiently. It can also help with muscle growth and maintenance, which is important for overall health. Additionally, whey protein powder has many essential vitamins and minerals that can help support your health and wellbeing.

Blog interesting – ginger and basil

I love ginger, and I love basil, especially the fragrant Thai basil, it reminds me of my honeymoon to Indonesia. Ginger and basil are two herbs that have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat a variety of ailments and promote wellness. I studied Ayurvedic medicine which showed me just how incredible food, and flavourings, can be to remedy any ailments. Both ginger and basil come from Southeast Asia, but today they can be found growing around the world. Ginger and basil can make meals more flavourful without adding extra fat or cholesterol, and take me back to my time in Indonesia.

Ginger is known for its ability to help with digestion and nausea, as well as reduce inflammation. It is also a powerful antioxidant and can help lower blood sugar levels. Basil has antifungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties that make it beneficial for promoting gut health. It is also known to have anti-inflammatory effects and can help improve circulation.  They are great additions to any diet as they can provide essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that help protect cells from damage.

How to make almond milk

Making almond milk at home is a great alternative to store-bought varieties, and it’s so easy to do. All you need are almonds, water, a blender or food processor, and some cheesecloth or muslin cloth. Here’s how to make almond milk:

  1. Start by soaking 1 cup of raw almonds in a bowl of cold water overnight, or blanch them in boiling water for 10 minutes.
  2. Once your almonds are soaked and soft, drain off any excess liquid that remains. You can do this by pouring the almonds into a sieve or colander, then giving them a little rinse under some cold tap water.
  3. To make your almond milk, put the almonds in a blender or food processor and add about 2 cups of water for every 1 cup of almonds you use. Start blending everything at low speed, making sure to keep pushing down on the mixture with a spoon as it blends, until the liquid is nice and smooth. If you want your finished product to be thinner, simply add more water until you reach your desired consistency.
  4. On most blenders, you’ll need to remove the centre piece that holds all of the blades in order to pour out the nut milk when it’s done. If you don’t want to make a mess, hold a towel or some paper towels over the top of your blender to catch any drips as you pour it out.
  5. Finally, strain your almond milk through a piece of cheesecloth or muslin cloth. Lay the cloth over a large bowl and slowly pour the liquid into it, letting it drain completely before discarding the leftover nut pulp (you can use this for other things like baking powder or crackers). Store your homemade almond milk in an airtight glass bottle or container in the refrigerator until ready to use. It should keep for up to 3-4 days, although its flavour and consistency may change slightly with time.

What we think

“Only I tested this smoothie as the recipe above makes enough for 1. The smoothie was creamy and a really nice fresh taste. I add protein powder to smoothies to get the protein boost however the measure in this recipe was a bit too much as I could taste the powdery-ness of the whey protein powder. So I would give this a higher rating next time if I used less powder. ”
