A match made in heaven – chocolate and strawberries
The history of chocolate and strawberries is one that dates back centuries. In South America, cocoa trees have been cultivated since at least 600 BC and the Aztecs used cocoa beans as currency for trading goods. It was not until the 16th century that chocolate was first brought to Europe by Spanish explorers, where it quickly became a popular treat. Strawberries, too, have been a part of human diets for centuries. They were first cultivated by the ancient Romans and were mentioned in literature as far back as the 14th century. It was not until the mid-17th century that they began to be grown on a larger scale and found their way into gardens across Europe.
